As some of you may know, I recently bought another non running alfa. This one seemed in good shape and was really cheap. As these things always go, it’ll take more work and money than I though. Now I can only keep one alfa prefect, so now I must chose which to keep. Do I keep my red 85 gtv6 that has a very rust body, needs a full engine rebuild and all the exhaust valves, serious structural rust, a crappy interior, and a new $600 driveshaft or do I keep my new grey 87 milano. Same engine/trans, only needs engine gaskets, no valves, no significant structural rust, about the same cosmetic rust, decent driveshaft and about the same interior. The only things that make it hard is the the red fastback sports car is more appealing than the grey sedan, and that the gtv doesn’t have a title where the milano does . Seems like I got a title for the GTV6, so now they both do. So OPPO, which do I keep?

Milano. No offense, but the GTV6 seems like a parts car, at least to someone who has no emotional attachment to it.

Logical choice is Milano unless you have the time and money for all the work the other needs.

Milano makes the most sense, which isn’t much because you own two Alfas.

Your heart says GTV, but logic says the Milano. I’d vote Milano, as much as I love the GTV.
Milano is easier to get sorted, fact. Also, Milanos are more common-ish, so easier to find replacement parts for if necessary. The fact it has a title is probably a big one as well. They may not be lookers, but they still drive very well! :)

I recently bought another non running alfa.
And you’re looking for our help now?!?!
![]() 07/13/2016 at 23:01 |

It’s a gold, so exact same engine/trans/drivesahft/ecu

I can only keep one, and I can’t chose.
![]() 07/13/2016 at 23:02 |

That’s the issue. There’s a lot of emotion, it’s my first alfa, project car, itialian car, car I like, I could go on and on.

I have no time and less money.

I stopped making sense years ago.

Could you swap the Milano engine to the GTV6?
![]() 07/13/2016 at 23:09 |

Both engines require rebuilding, and they’re the same 2.5 v6 anyway.
![]() 07/13/2016 at 23:14 |

I love the Milano so that one.

Have you thought of the 164 yet? I think they make great sleepers.
![]() 07/13/2016 at 23:42 |
|
They do, but I’m not going to buy any more cars for a while. I do have a 164 3l in the garage I’m trying to sell. Got my gtv, the milano, 13 spare wheels, a 164 engine, and a 164 fender for a total of $650 in 2 transactions. Running out of space, time, and money. Need to pick one car and get rid of extra parts.
![]() 07/13/2016 at 23:42 |

I’m leaning that way so far.

A car with severe structural rust, a *totally* shot engine, no title (!!!), and in need of a driveshaft worth more than the car. Or something that actually sounds like it could almost realistically be fixed to the point of drivability, with a title.
This shouldn’t even be a question.

Emotional attachment is a bitch. Though they’re both in need of tens of thousands of hours and thousands of dollars.

Which one do you like better?
![]() 07/14/2016 at 00:04 |

Both.
![]() 07/14/2016 at 00:07 |

Personally, I must say Milano, because the condition, parts availability, and time needed is all better.
![]() 07/14/2016 at 00:09 |

I’d say about the same time required and parts are exactly the same. It’s a gold milano so same engine/drivesahft/trans/ecu and all that.
Only difference is body and interior. But it’s more structurally sound.

Rust was the main reason I said Milano, TBH. Once you start digging into that GTV, God knows what you will (or won’t) find.

I know how bad it is. Really, really bad.

Gymkhana it?

Neither one will run before 2018
![]() 07/14/2016 at 01:12 |

It’s a tough call, but I’d stick with the GTV if they truly do need the same amount of work.

This is so hard. Why do I have to have such strong emotional attachment to alfas?
![]() 07/14/2016 at 01:45 |
|
Is there any way you could keep both?
I think everyone on Oppo has a weird attachment to some kind of car; I could see myself hoarding Citroens and Microcars, for example, and I can name people who are weirdly attached to VWs, E28 BMWs, Subaru 360s, Renault Le Cars, Subaru SVXs, mid ‘80's Toyotas, Cadillacs, mid ninities Buicks and JDM sports cars, Pontiac GTAs and Honda NSXes, Peugeot 205s, prewar cars, etc. We all have some kind of car we’re emotionally attatched to.

We all do. Sadly my parents won’t let me keep any non running cars at home and I have a limit of 2 at the shop, which my grandparents own but let me use. For now, those two are my nissan shitra and my gtv6. Sadly I can’t just get rid of the nissan because I won’t be able to drive the shop truck for much longer and I need a running car. I’ll talk to her tomorrow about maybe letting me keep one or both behind the garage and see if that’ll work. I really hope so. Us car nuts are just that. If not it’s going to kill me to sentence an alfa to the crusher.
![]() 07/14/2016 at 02:03 |

Why don’t you sell the Nissan, sell both Alfas, sell the Alfa parts, and buy one good Alfa to DD? Or speed fix the Nissan and keep the Alfas at the shop?
![]() 07/14/2016 at 02:38 |
|
Should have trans parts for the nissan in 2 weeks but it’s been the list reliable car ever. I can’t count on having shop space for 2 projects. Sadly alfas are very rare in this area, these are the only 2 I’ve found under 5k in the last year, and I’ve bought them both within hours of being posted on CL. The nissan is worth at best, when running, $1k, and both alfas parted out maybe 2. I think the best bet is to fix and DD the nissan and see if I can’t keep both alfas at least for a few more months while I get them torn apart. Keep anything of value and sell anything I don’t need. That at least gives me time to pick which body I want more, and hopefully get enough space that I can keep both.
![]() 07/14/2016 at 09:20 |
|
That’s reasonable; that way you at least know what you’re getting. Is there any way you could ditch the Nissan and get another $1k DD?
![]() 07/14/2016 at 16:10 |
|
Not right now. I’ve tried before, but even when running the best offer I get is $300. And I’m in over $4k so far, so I can’t just dump it.

Milano all day. Just keep a bunch of gtv6 parts as spares and the car will live on in spirit. Or go all out and make a desk chair out of a seat
![]() 07/14/2016 at 18:54 |
|
As much as I hate to, I think the milano is the better choice.
![]() 07/16/2016 at 13:22 |

Man, you’re good about these cars. I’d go with the 164 still. The Milano doesn’t do much for me, the GTV is good looking, but for me somewhat too attention getting by its appearance. The 164 though hit’s all the right spots.

Pepperidge Farm remembers
I really dig the GTV6, but it sounds too far gone. As others have suggested, use it as a parts car.

I don’t have a 164. Just the milano and gtv. I do have a fender and engine for a 164, but nothing else.

Whichever one you do choose to keep, make sure you sell the other on rather than scrapping. If there's anyone like me around your parts, that kind of thing is what they're realy hoping for (and is the only way for me to get a gtv6 or 75 at an affordable price!)
![]() 07/17/2016 at 18:29 |

If you’re in Colorado and want one of them I’m open to offers. The goal is to keep all the parts I can and sell the rest of the parts and hope for someone to buy the shell.
